Learning a Language, Learning a Culture

To truly learn a language one must learn the culture(s) in which the language is learned.  It is not simply a process of translating words.  Learning a language is learning a new way of thinking and a new and different look at the world.  For example, there are certain words that simply do not translate from one language to another.

This is a challenging and rewarding process.  For as one learns the language of another, one learns more about how they see the world.  And simultaneously one must and does learn to see the world afresh through new eyes.

I encourage you to explore this possibility in your life.
